NexxtDrive's technology
NexxtDrive's patented transmission systems combine the functionality of continuously variable drives with state-of-the-art motor/generators. It is an innovative technology that uses a simple, robust epicyclic gear train to combine the motions of a primary mechanical power source and two independently controlled electric motor/generators.
The devices continually vary the speed of output shafts across its required operating range under full electronic control. The system works without the need for clutches, torque converters or any form of mechanical gear change. In an automotive application it can operate as part of a hybrid power system or as totally self-contained system with no hybrid capability.
DualDrive
The Dual Drive system uses a highly efficient epicyclic gear train to transmit its power, combined with the two motor / generators. Generating electric power in one place and using it to drive a nearby motor is relatively inefficient. Dual Drive's design means that at on average only around 10% of the total power is transferred via the electrical path. This results in much higher overall efficiencies.

iBelt
iBelt is an electro mechanical system for driving engine accessories at speeds independent from that of the engine. It can also provide "stop start" and replaces the function of the conventional alternator. Significant savings of fuel and emissions can be achieved, and allow some accessory systems to be driven at engine stop. Further configurations for specialist off-road applications can provide clutchless reversing of the engine fan.
SuperGen
SuperGen is a variable-speed electro mechanical driven and controlled supercharger. The key to the SuperGen concept lies in the patented combination of an epycylic traction transmission and electric ratio control, used to vary the speed of the compressor. It has both hybrid and non hybrid configurations, and can enable significant engine downsizing and emissions reductions.
NexxtPower
NexxtPower is the application of DualDrive to wind turbine transmission systems. It permits the wind turbine generator to run at synchronous speeds thereby synchronizing with the grid without the need for frequency convertors. Additionally it enables operation in higher wind speeds and gust conditions than normally allowed thereby increased the turbine utilization factor.
NexxtBoost
During acceleration of a power-split hybrid vehicle, increased acceleration can be achieved by using both electric machines as generators. The NexxtBoost patent allows the generated power to be used to power an electric boost device to boost the engine, especially at low engine speeds, thereby further improving performance. |
