All NexxtDrive's power-combining drives use an epicyclic gear train to combine power from the engine, or other power source, with the motions of two electric motor / generators (e-machines). The e-machines alternate their roles as motor or generator at different points in the drive cycle, under the influence of sophisticated control algorithms. By altering the way the transmitted power is routed between the electrical and mechanical drive paths, the speed and torque at the output shaft can be precisely controlled.
The speciality of our systems is to mainly utilise four branch transmissions which maximises the power transmitted through the more efficient mechanical path, with control being achieved using the electrical path. Thus overall system efficiency is high and the e-machines can be smaller, lighter and lower cost than other systems. |
